The Kidapawan Open

The Kidapawan Open Chess Championship is a nine-round Swiss System Open Tournament, which will be held from 8-9 February 2014 at the Kidapawan City Convention Center in Kidapawan City, as part of the activities in observance of the 16th Foundation Anniversary of the City.

Tournament Organizers

The Kidapawan Open is organized by the Kidapawan Chess Club, Inc., and Batch 85 – Notre Dame of Kidapawan Boys and Girls HS Alumni Association Inc. It is also sanctioned by the National Chess Federation of the Philippines.


Time Control and Format

The time control is thirty minutes (30) for each player for the entire game.


Participants

The tournament will register a total of one hundred players (100) only on a first come first served basis. The tournament is open to all Filipino players of all ages, rated or non-rated, male or female, residing anywhere in the Philippines.

A registration fee of Three Hundred Pesos (P300.00) will be required from each player residing outside Kidapawan City. Kidapawan City players will pay Two Hundred Pesos (P200.00) only. Please bring chess set/s and chess clock/s during the tournament.

Prizes

Cash prizes and medals will be awarded to the top placers of the tournament:
Champion - P 15,000.00 + medal
First Runner Up - P 10,000.00 + medal
Second Runner Up - P 5,000.00 + medal
Third Runner Up - P 3,000.00 + medal
Fourth-Ninth Runner Up - P 1,000.00 each
Best Kiddie Player Runner Up - P 1,000.00 + medal
Best Junior Player - P 1,000.00 + medal
Best Female Player - P 1,000.00 + medal


Playing Venue

The tournament will be played at the Kidapawan City Convention Center in Kidapawan City.


Playing Conditions

1. Except as otherwise provided, the FIDE Rules of Chess shall govern the tournament.

2. Defaulting time is ten (10) minutes after the start of each round.

3. Chess recording is compulsory. When in extreme time trouble (five minutes left on the clock), player may use check marks as his moves are made.

4. All ties shall be broken as follows:

a. The results of the game between the tied players;

b. Bucholz System; and

c. Median Bucholz.

5. Protests must be submitted in writing to the Chief Arbiter within thirty (30) minutes after the conclusion of the round and the Chief Arbiter shall decide immediately. The decision of the Chief Arbiter is final and unappealable.


Tournament Arbiter

The Chief Arbiter for the tournament is Mr. James Infiesto of the National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP). He will be assisted by Mr. Alfred Moulic, Ms. Natalia T. Olay, Mr. Ronald Olay, and Mr. Ruel Olay.
